COMPETITION
Competition is held each Monday night from early September to mid March, commencing at 6:00 pm.
To be eligible for any major award at our club an athlete must compete in a minimum of 50% of all available events for the season, from the date of their registration.
Children compete in events in their age and gender group eg 1998 boys, or 2001 girls.
Each second Monday night they compete in 2 runs, a jump and a throw event. eg. 100m, 400m, Long Jump, Shot Put and on the alternative weeks they compete in the the other events such as 200m, 800m, High Jump and Discus. And depending on their age they may add an extra event such as javelin or triple jump.
Monday Night Competition is also organised into scratch events, where everybody starts off go, and handicap events where the fastest runners from previous weeks start at the back of the pack.
Competition points are tallied for Scratch Events, Handicap Events and Club Championships. Trophies, ribbons etc are awarded on Presentation Night.
Because the Committee believes emphasis should not only be on winning, a point score system was devised to recognise those children who continually improve their own performance. Points are not allocated until an athlete is registered.
